Rankings at TMU
Why rankings matter at TMU
As an institution dedicated to tackling real-world problems, forging strong partnerships and fostering innovative solutions, our reputation and reach matters. In order to attract students, faculty and staff who are committed to shaping a sustainable and prosperous future together, TMU participates in a number of rankings, which helps grow our university’s impact on a local, national and global scale.
These rankings, which include the Quacquarelli Symonds’ World University and Subject rankings, the Times Higher Education World University and Impact Rankings and Maclean’s University Rankings, can significantly impact TMU’s ability to fundraise, recruit faculty, engage partners in research and other collaborations, and attract the most dynamic students.
"TMU recently completed its first submissions for the QS World University Rankings and Sustainability Rankings. We continue to participate in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings and Impact Rankings, along with the Maclean's University Rankings for Canadian institutions. University rankings are increasingly important for recruiting students and faculty, and for developing partnerships with other institutions and with industry partners. This is important work that demonstrates the breadth of TMU's achievements. Our work on rankings is driven by and in support of the university's academic mission, and will always be aligned with TMU's values."
Our approach to rankings
TMU's University Planning Office leads submissions to major domestic and international university rankings, working with many departments, units, and colleagues across the university to collect and verify data. Many of these submissions require reporting figures on university activities as reflected by student enrolment and faculty counts, degrees awarded, and research income.
Sustainability-focused rankings involve gathering public information on the initiatives taking place across the university to support sustainable development. This includes things like environmental research projects, community outreach to provide training or exchange knowledge with youth or vulnerable people, partnerships with businesses and non-profit organizations to improve health care or promote economic growth, and campus initiatives to reduce waste or serve sustainable food.
