Title: “Don’t leave me behind” Advancing indigenous peoples with University education: A Stakeholders’ perspective

Description: While most immigrants in Canada succeed, her indigenous peoples lag behind. Research on indigenous peoples has studied gaps between indigenous and non-indigenous peoples, but less attention has focused on what caused the gap. Specifically, what are the barriers and inhibitors to indigenous peoples achieving university education? Since education has been found to affect personal income and GDP, this concern is valid. We are taking the stakeholder’s perspective to posit that higher the coordination and collaboration amongst stakeholders such as government, communities, educational institutions and indigenous communities, the greater the indigenous engagement and completion in university education. While this is common sense, we will work deep to unearth what forms an undertow that prohibits such alignment?

Bio: Mary Han is an Associate Professor at Ted Rogers School of Management, Toronto Metropolitan University. Currently, Mary teaches strategic management at the Entrepreneurship and strategy department, but her research interest lies across both fields. Her recent research focuses on management education, stakeholders’ perspective and organizational ambidexterity. She also examines management education in indigenous communities. Mary advises government, multinationals and new ventures.
