Through her company, Lead Podcasting (external link) , Amanda Cupido ‘12 is creating an award that will be given to one student each year who aligns with Lead Podcasting’s vision to connect communities around the world through audio storytelling.

The recipient will receive $2000, which Cupido and Lead Podcasting hope will help support their pursuit of audio storytelling.

To qualify for the Lead Podcasting Award, applicants must be a student in any year of study in Journalism; and submit a podcast series [audio only] for review that they have created outside of academic coursework and includes at least three episodes.

This award will go hand-in-hand with a public-facing podcast series called Podcasters On The Rise (external link) . It will curate different episodes from each student who applies and allow listeners to get a peek at up-and-coming podcasters.

Cupido remembers when she was a student and was passionate about podcasts. She wished there was an award through the School of Journalism that recognized her work and commitment.

“Now that I have my own podcast production company, I'm able to make that happen for current and future students at TMU! I also think it's really important to give back to the communities you're a part of and love, and this is definitely one of them for me,” she says.
