The implications of the deliberate destruction of the food system in Gaza

Dr. Ahmed Abu Shaban, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine at Al Azhar University in Gaza, presents a discussion on the long history of undermining of Gaza's food system, the impact of Israeli actions on food security in Gaza and the West Bank, the role of community-led initiatives in coping with the crisis, and the potential for rebuilding a resilient food system post-conflict through international research collaboration.

Evolution of urban agriculture projects: Four Toronto Cases

Urban agriculture projects are often perceived as fragile and relatively short-lived projects. While some projects have disappeared during this quarter of a century, a number of projects continue but have undergone multiple changes. Four examples of very different projects located in Toronto (the largest city in Canada) illustrate the capacity of urban agriculture to evolve over time.

Check out the student-run Oakham Café (external link)  in Oakham House (OAK). Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm.

Visit Ted's Kitchen, a student-run quick-serve kiosk in Ted Rogers School of Management for breakfast or lunch. Monday - Friday 9:30 am - 3:30 pm.

Find one of the university-run campus eateries run by TMU Eats. Hours vary. 

Seasonal food for purchase

From June to September, enjoy lunch at the rooftop Urban Farm on the 8th floor of the Daphne Cockwell Complex (DCC). Purchase produce and flowers to take home! Wednesdays 11 am - 2 pm.

Shop between classes from September - November! Buy produce at the weekly farmers' market. Thursdays 10 am - 2 pm.

The Good Food Centre in the Student Campus Centre (SCC) is a food pantry in  run by the Toronto Metropolitan Students' Union. Email the students' union at info@yourtmsu.ca for up-to-date operating hours, as the website is not up-to-date (as of 18 Oct 2025).
