How do I apply to the Master of Architecture program at Toronto Metropolitan University?
All applications must be submitted through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre. Once your application has been received by the graduate admissions office, you will receive an email from Toronto Metropolitan University with steps for completing your application. Visit How to Apply for an outline of the process.
When is the application deadline?
The deadline for first consideration can be found through our Application Deadlines. Architecture follows the date for “All Other Programs.”
Prospective students are encouraged to submit applications prior to the first consideration date to increase their chances of securing financial support and to be considered for prestigious and competitive awards, such as the Ontario Graduate Scholarship and the Toronto Metropolitan University Graduate Scholarship, among others.
The program may continue to accept applications after the first consideration deadline, until it has filled all available openings. If the program is closed and no longer reviewing applications for the current intake, it will be listed under Closed and/or Closing Soon.
Can I apply for winter (January) admission?
Unfortunately, Toronto Metropolitan University does not offer winter or spring admission.

What are the English language requirements?
If you have not completed two or more years, full time, at a Canadian university or a university where English was the primary language of instruction, or if you have not completed a graduate degree at a university where English was the primary language of instruction, you will be required to provide certification of English language proficiency through one of the accepted examinations. Scores are valid for two years from the test date.
Meeting the minimum English proficiency requirements does not guarantee admission. Programs may set additional requirements to these minimum standards.
For exemption from this requirement, applicants are required to provide an official statement from the registrar’s office of their institution confirming the use of English as the medium of instruction for the duration of their study.

Do I need to secure a supervisor before applying?
No. Near the end of their second term, students begin exploring their research topic, and that is when they should discuss their ideas with several potential supervisors. Professors’ research interests, areas of specialization and contact details can be found on the department’s Faculty page. What is a statement of thesis intent?
A statement of thesis intent is a brief written statement of about 500 words, submitted as part of your application. For full details on what to include within the statement, visit the program website.
What funding options are available to Master of Architecture students?
Students may qualify for funding in the form of the Toronto Metropolitan University Graduate Fellowship and the Toronto Metropolitan University Graduate Development Award, as well as prestigious and competitive awards, including the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS), the Toronto Metropolitan University Graduate Scholarship (RGS) and the Queen Elizabeth II award, among others. Note that, to be considered for the OGS and RGS, students must submit their application by the first consideration date.
Students are also encouraged to apply for the limited number of graduate assistantships offered in the Department of Architectural Science.

How do I submit my portfolio?
You must submit both a hard and electronic copy of your portfolio along with your Master of Architecture application. Within three business days of submitting your application through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre, you will be emailed instructions for uploading required documents via the Applicant Portal, as outlined on the program website.

What funding options are available to graduate students?
All research students (MASc, PhD) are offered a minimum guaranteed funding package that is a combination of: a research stipend from the supervisor; a scholarship; and/or a graduate or research assistantship. You will be notified in writing by your program of the amount and the method of distribution of funds, either with your offer of admission or soon afterward. MBSc students do not qualify for funding.
