Research and innovation

With new priorities guiding our work, Ted Rogers School researchers are tackling today’s biggest business challenges with fresh perspectives and real-world impact. This past year, we focused on building momentum through interdisciplinary partnerships, student-faculty collaboration and strategic investments. Here's how donor support is fueling research innovation.

The Family Business Institute

Launched in 2023, the Family Business Institute (FBI) at the Ted Rogers School is quickly becoming a leader in family enterprise research, education and engagement. Designed to address the unique challenges and opportunities of family-owned businesses, the FBI bridges academic insight with real-world application.

A recent $75,000 gift from the KPMG Family Office is helping the FBI expand its impact through a new succession-focused research project, bringing together the institute’s expertise with KPMG’s trusted advisory approach. Recognized with the Schulze Publication Award and Barbara Hollander Award, the FBI continues to elevate Ted Rogers School’s role as a global thought leader in the family business space.

National Institute on Ageing

The National Institute on Ageing (NIA) is leading national efforts to ensure older adults can age with dignity, support and confidence. Through research, policy and public engagement, the NIA is changing how Canada approaches aging.

This year, the NIA received $4 million from the Worwin UK Foundation and $3 million from the Slaight Family Foundation. Additional support for the Health Partnership Summit included: $15,000 each from Teladoc Health and Canada Health Infoway Inc. and $10,000 each from Extendicare Inc., Sienna Senior Living Inc., Deloitte and Shoppers Drug Mart.

Thanks to this generosity, the NIA continues to shape more inclusive, equitable systems for Canada’s aging population.

Championing research

This year, the Ted Rogers School proudly introduced our inaugural group of Research Ambassadors, distinguished scholars whose lifetime achievements in research and success in securing grants have earned them recognition as leaders in their fields. Representing diverse areas of business research, from human resources to information technology and beyond, these ambassadors are champions for the world-class research happening here. They will help share our story and inspire others by showcasing the impact of our work.

We also launched two new research institutes that speak to our strategic priorities: INSPIRE, dedicated to advancing sustainable research and responsible innovation, and OSCAR, focused on transforming operations and supply chain management through leading-edge research.

Together, our Research Ambassadors and research institutes, centres and labs reflect the incredible momentum building at the Ted Rogers School. With these efforts, we are not only strengthening our commitment to research excellence but also shaping the future of business and society.
