The time has come. Orientation Week is over and classes have officially begun. While you settle into a new routine and get acquainted (or re-acquainted) with our bustling campus, don’t forget to familiarize yourself with some important services available to help you navigate your time at TMU.

First-year students

Navigate TMU
The Navigate TMU website provides essential information to first-year students, including answers to common questions, a glossary of key terms that you will hear throughout your university experience and contact information for your faculty’s Student Success Navigator who can help you understand where or who to go to for help.

The Navigate TMU program was created to support students in feeling more confident in their first year and more knowledgeable of the skills and resources to navigate university. If you’d like to participate, register for the program (external link)  by Friday, September 15.

Learning assistance

There are many different supports that students can access to help navigate their academic journey at TMU.

Academic Accommodation Support
Did you know, one in 10 TMU students are registered with Academic Accommodation Support (AAS)? AAS helps students with disabilities, regardless of their program or course load, by creating and implementing individualized academic accommodation plans so they can more fully participate in their studies. Accommodations can address how you demonstrate your learning, how you receive course materials and how you participate in your classes. For more information, visit the academic accommodation support website

Student Life and Learning Support
Student Life and Learning Support (SLLS) helps students of all years and programs learn essential academic skills and study techniques. SLLS offers both in-person and online appointments and group and one-on-one tutoring sessions. Students can also access workshops on various topics like time management, focus and concentration, test and exam prep, and more. To learn more and book an appointment, visit the Learning Support webpage

Tri-Mentoring Program
The Tri-Mentoring Program (TMP) offers peer, career and group mentoring to students across all faculties. TMP’s educational priority is to mentor each student using their individual experience to find their sense of belonging on campus. To learn more about the TMP’s various programs, visit the Tri-Mentoring Program website.

Health Promotion Programs
Students can join new Connect to Your Health TMU workshop series. This series is designed to help students connect and tend to issues related to their health and well-being. Students can connect with professionals from various TMU health services and take a deeper look through specialized workshops covering topics like understanding well-being resources on campus, navigating relationships and healthy boundaries, safer substance use, managing stress and healthy eating on a budget.

Group and individual peer support
Peer Support is described as emotional and practical support between two or more people who share a common lived experience. This can be the experience of a mental illness, mental health concern(s), or any other life event which has an impact on our overall well-being. Students can expect  supportive and caring environments to discuss their mental health concerns in our groups and individual sessions that provide a supportive setting to reflect, process, and problem solve common mental health concerns from a peer with lived experience of mental health.
