Tajigoltieg - We are Healthy: Enhancing food security and mental wellbeing programs to manage COVID-19 pandemic stressors in a remote Mi'kmaq community

Tajigoltieg - We are Healthy: Using CBPR to address food security during and after COVID-19, this CBPR project focused on food security as a route to health and wellness. Through partnership with a rural Mi’kmaq community, this project aims to strengthen and assess ongoing community efforts to increase access to affordable, nutritious, and culturally relevant foods and support mental health wellness during the pandemic. The project explores household food needs (e.g., consistent access to food, reduced barriers to healthy food options, community-driven supports) throughout the pandemic and program modifications needed to support those demands within a rural context. We integrate local and public health knowledge to determine effective and sustainable practices and communicate findings in forms that can be readily used by the community (e.g., reports, recommendations for program administrators). Findings from this project will support community resilience during emergency contexts by providing insight on maintaining strong food systems, food programming, and culture-based supports.
