Film History and Criticism II

This course surveys the history of global cinema from the 1960s to the present. Students research and critically analyze films within their historical context. Applying specialized vocabulary and terms, students write a critical research project on a chosen topic from the time period. Topics include the reformation of the Hollywood studio system, New Waves, Third Cinema and post-colonial cinema, Auteur Theory, Queer Cinema, Indigenous Cinema, and recent changes in the distribution and reception of contemporary cinema.
