Dr. Caron Bitter-Phinney is an Assistant Professor of Design, Technology, and Diversity at the School of Fashion at Toronto Metropolitan University. She is also a graduate from the undergraduate fashion program, with a major in fashion design and a minor in production. She previously served as Undergraduate Program Director and Fashion Coordinator and is the founding faculty mentor of the Black Faculty and Students Association (BFSA). Her leadership and teaching are grounded in critical pedagogy, care-based practice, and a commitment to fostering connections between industry and academia.

For over 15 years, she has taught fashion technology, specializing in computer-aided pattern making, 3D body scanning, and digital design tools, helping students become technically proficient and socially conscious designers. With over 15 years of industry experience in bridal and ceremonial fashion, as well as roles as a wedding planner and stylist, she brings extensive technical and cultural knowledge to her students. Dr. Phinney has led research on inclusive sizing and body diversity and is now exploring relational leadership, equity in design education, human-centred methodologies, and adaptive fashion for social impact.
