AERIAS helps aerospace companies innovate with confidence

We work in unison with our clients to reduce the financial burden of aerospace R&D by providing them with streamlined access to new talent, funding, and engineering expertise.

At the start of every client relationship – from Original Equipment Manufacturers to Tier 2 partners – we prioritize adaptability, ingenuity, and collaboration.

Our Services

Easily bolster your engineering team with our experts

  • Add to your team: We can assign long-term and short-term project teams to a product’s development, or provide you with dedicated individuals through co-op and internship placements, and everything in between.
  • Streamline your recruitment: We make onboarding full-time talent easier and less costly, as students can train on the job through our centre and become immersed in your organization’s practices, transitioning to a full-time role with your team.
  • Expand your engineering arsenal: While the core of our workforce consists of aerospace engineers and students, our centre spans many other engineering fields including computer, chemical, mechanical and electrical.

Mitigate product development risk efficiently and confidently

  • Actively assess risk: We assess a product’s potential lifecycle in order to mitigate future risks, with a focus on design effectiveness, material properties, and cost.

  • Access advanced testing and laboratory facilities: In collaboration with your team, our experts can support the conceptualization, design, simulation, and testing of aerospace products through our secure, off-campus environment.

Highlights of our modular laboratory capabilities include:
    • Augmented reality tools
    • Flat table for 2D frictionless space environment
    • Full aircraft fuselage mock-up (re-configurable)
    • Materials and environment testing
    • Propulsion research facilities
    • Simulator for aircraft cockpit optimization
    • Wind tunnel testing

  • Adhere to safety regulations: We comply with the latest regulations and standards set by a client’s design approver organizations, as well as industry regulatory agencies.

Stay at the forefront of aerospace research through our academic community

  • Accelerate your R&D with our insights: Based on the evolving product development needs of today’s aerospace manufacturers and suppliers, we are dedicated to advancing research across four research pillars:
    • Automated Systems and Artificial Intelligence
    • Sustainable Propulsion Systems
    • Cabin Interior Technology
    • Space Flight and Advanced Flight Systems
  • Minimize upfront research costs: With our access to, and experience with, granting agencies, we can explore alternative funding opportunities. We can also explore confidential project partnerships with related companies to enhance collaboration and decrease financial risk.
  • Expand your partnership network: As part of Toronto Metropolitan University and the DAIR consortium, we frequently host knowledge-sharing events such as workshops, webinars, and panels, to help our clients achieve their visions.

Our Experience

Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) formed AERIAS by uniting two powerful aerospace engineering programs:

  • Institute for Aerospace Design and Innovation (RIADI), an experiential learning/work-study program
  • Aerospace Engineering Centre (RAEC), which conducts leading R&D research

Together, these programs bring together over 25 years of experience working with leading global aerospace organizations such as Bombardier, Collins Aerospace, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Canada Aerospace, Safran, and Pratt & Whitney.

AERIAS is part of the Downsview Aerospace Innovation & Research (DAIR) Hub (external link) , located in Toronto, Canada.

What others are saying

"I am very impressed by not only the calibre of work being performed by the students, but also by the students themselves. They are articulate. They are confident. They present extremely well. They are really poised for success. I think it says a lot about the quality of training and education the engineering students at Toronto Metropolitan University are receiving."
