Flag Management
Flags on Campus
University Events and Ceremonies, in partnership with the President’s Office, is responsible for all flagpoles located on university property.
Toronto Metropolitan University has two flag poles located in the Kerr Hall Quad. One permanently flies the flag of Canada and the second flies the Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) flag.
The School of Medicine has four flag poles located outside its main entrance. The flags are flown in the Canadian Heritage order of precedence: Canada, Province of Ontario, City of Brampton, TMU.
The Mattamy Athletic Centre has three flagpoles located on the top of the building. The flags are flown in the appropriate order of precedence according to Canadian Heritage protocols: Canada, Province of Ontario, TMU.
The TMU flag is replaced for significant event/commemoration purposes on the main campus only for the following dates:
- 2SLGBTQ+ Pride Month - June 1 - June 15
- National Indigenous People’s Day - June 21
- Orange Shirt Day* Truth and Reconciliation Day - September 30
- Transgender Day of Remembrance* - November 20
Flags on the Main Campus and Brampton Campus will be lowered to half-mast on the following dates:
- January 27 - National Day of Holocaust Remembrance
- April 28 - National Day of Mourning (commemorating workers whose lives have been lost or injured in the workplace)
- June 23 - National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism
- September 30 - Truth and Reconciliation Day
- November 11 - Remembrance Day
- November 20 - Transgender Day of Remembrance
- December 6 - National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women
- Upon the death of the Sovereign, the Governor General or the Prime Minister
