President Lachemi welcomes TMU community back to campus for his final semester as president
Twenty-eight years ago, I experienced my first fall semester as a member of this community.
I came to campus excited to start my new role as an assistant professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, fueled by my passion for my work and the energy of being part of an innovative, impactful and collaborative university community.
This fall is no different, as we all return to campus that same energy is palpable as we come together again to learn, share, grow and make a positive impact on one another and our communities.
As we do so, we are mindful of our collective responsibility to ensure all members of our community feel supported and safe on our campus to work, study and express themselves. We have made a deep commitment to continually improve in this undertaking, and we will do this by strengthening the ways we engage with each other, cultivating respectful and welcoming spaces and opportunities for all.
I have seen incredible growth at TMU since I first arrived. From a new home for athletics at the Mattamy Athletic Centre, to the stunning Student Learning Centre, new residence spaces with more to come, to new schools of law and medicine; a full list of achievements is impossible to list here.
I am so proud of all we have accomplished together and know that this incredible momentum will continue under Roberta Iannacito-Provenzano, who will officially take office as
TMU’s 10th president and vice-chancellor in January.
In the meantime, I hope this fall is one that inspires you to lean into opportunity, understanding and discovery. I look forward to seeing many of you on campus this semester, and wish you a successful, rewarding year at TMU filled with new experiences, meaningful connections and opportunities to learn and grow.
Mohamed Lachemi
