Notice of Intent shared for a new BSc in Environmental and Urban Sustainability Science (Hons)
The Department of Geography and Environmental Studies has presented its (PDF file) intent to propose a new Bachelor of Science in Environmental and Urban Sustainability Science (Hons) (EUSS). This Notice of Intent (NOI) will be available online for the customary review period of 30 days, until October 15, 2026.
The EUSS aims to prepare students with the technical, scientific and practical skills to tackle today’s pressing environmental challenges. The proposed program will complement the existing Bachelor of Arts in Environmental and Urban Sustainability degree, providing students with a unique opportunity to acquire specialized skills in physical geography, geomatics and environmental science, supported by essential learning in the social sciences. The program will bring together courses from the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies, the Department of Chemistry and Biology, the School of Urban and Regional Planning and other areas to provide students a strong foundation in sustainability science.
Students will develop technical and analytical skills through laboratory and field techniques, scientific data collection and analysis, geospatial methods, and social science and critical analysis. Experiential learning will be integral to the program, with students engaging with real-world environmental data through research projects and field work, alongside the option to pursue co-operative education.
