Lisa Barnoff appointed interim dean, Faculty of Community Services
After consultation within the Faculty of Community Services, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Lisa Barnoff as interim dean, Faculty of Community Services, effective July 1, 2026 for a one year term. As a dedicated educator, scholar and academic leader, Lisa is deeply committed to equity, social justice, anti-oppressive practice and community-building.
Lisa joined TMU in 2003 as assistant professor, School of Social Work. A tenured associate professor since 2006, Lisa brings deep institutional experience and a strong record of community-engaged academic leadership including serving as dean, Faculty of Community Services from 2016 to 2021.
In 2022, Lisa joined the School of Medicine as Senior Lead, Social Accountability, later moving into the role of Interim Associate Dean, Equity and Social Accountability. Since 2024, she has served as interim vice-dean, Community, Culture and Belonging, advancing work grounded in equity, inclusion and social accountability in Ontario’s health care education system.
Across her leadership roles at TMU, Lisa has built and led teams, strengthened academic governance, and advanced systems that support equity, inclusion and community engagement. Lisa’s contributions to TMU have been recognized with several honours, including the Usha George Faculty Recognition Award (2016), the Errol Aspevig Award for Outstanding Academic Leadership (2020) and, most recently, the President’s Blue and Gold Award for Staff Excellence (2026).
As interim dean, Faculty of Community Services, Lisa brings a leadership style that is collaborative, progressive and grounded in community. With extensive academic leadership experience, deep institutional knowledge and a longstanding commitment to TMU’s values, she is well-positioned to guide the faculty through its next chapter; building inclusive academic communities, and advancing excellence in teaching, research and service.
