Celebrating TMU’s Class of 2026: what you need to know for spring convocation
From June 16-25, TMU’s Class of 2026 graduates will cross the stage at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in front of friends, family, classmates, faculty and staff, marking the culmination of their studies at the university.
This year, TMU is celebrating 8,028 students across 14 ceremonies. Of those, 6,670 are undergraduate students, 137 are law graduates, 613 are graduate students and 608 are continuing education students.
“On behalf of Toronto Metropolitan University, I am delighted to congratulate the Class of 2026 on this remarkable achievement,” said President Mohamed Lachemi.
“Today, we celebrate your accomplishments, resilience and ambition. As you begin this exciting new chapter, I am confident that you will continue to challenge conventions, drive positive change and make a lasting impact in your professions, communities and beyond,” he continued.
Nearly 900 international students from 42 countries, including China, India, Guyana and the United Arab Emirates, are graduating from TMU this year, underscoring the global makeup of the Class of 2026.
Fifty-five graduates were varsity athletes.
TMU will also award 11 honorary doctorates to 13 recipients at the spring convocation ceremonies in recognition of their extraordinary contributions to academia and society.
Attendees will hear remarks from one of the honorary doctorates or a distinguished speaker.

Grads: what you need to know
Each graduate can bring up to four guests. For those who cannot attend in person, each ceremony will be livestreamed on YouTube (external link) .
Arrive at least 90 minutes before your ceremony starts to allow time for check-in, receiving your regalia and ceremony instructions. Plan extra travel time and expect heavier traffic getting into downtown as Toronto will be hosting FIFA World Cup games throughout the month.
Parking can be challenging during convocation. Plan ahead by reviewing parking instructions and directions.
Floral arrangements (external link) are available for purchase in advance (via the Commencement Group website) (external link) or in the main lobby of the Mattamy Athletic Centre prior to each ceremony.
As you cross the stage, Chancellor Donette Chin-Loy Chang, President Mohamed Lachemi and other leaders and faculty will be there to congratulate you. Greet the stage party by placing your hand over your heart as you cross the stage.
Don’t forget to smile! A photographer from Gradimages (external link) will take your photo during this moment and while you exit the stage.
Dress for success
Comfort is important—convocation ceremonies typically last about two hours, and graduates should be prepared to stand, walk and climb stairs before and during the ceremony.
While your regalia is your main outfit, we recommend wearing business or business casual attire underneath with comfortable shoes.
Leave personal belongings and bulky items at home.
Items not permitted with academic regalia include country flags, sports team fan items (flags, hats, scarves etc.), student group buttons or other items affixed to the gown or hood.
For more information about what to wear, read our regalia guidelines.
Keep the celebration going
After the ceremony, continue the celebrations on the fourth floor of the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
Photo stations will be set up in the Jet Ice Lounge and throughout the fourth floor. Don’t forget to visit the Campus Store Pop-Up to pick up diploma frames and other TMU memorabilia.
Congratulations to all our graduates on reaching this milestone! Share your convocation moments using the hashtag #AlwaysAlumni and tagging @torontomet on social media.
