Calling all first- and fourth-year students: Share your feedback

Make positive change at TMU by participating in the National Survey of Student Engagement 2026

Over the next several weeks, first- and fourth-year Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) students are invited to participate in the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). This survey, used by universities across the province and country, helps to measure student engagement and involvement in undergraduate education. The results of the survey help identify strengths and opportunities for change and inform decisions to improve the quality of student experience.

First- and fourth-year students have received a survey invitation email at their @torontomu.ca email address asking for their feedback. The survey is open from February 24 to April 10, 2026. Survey respondents will be automatically entered into a draw to win a laptop.

This survey gives students an opportunity to give their input on issues ranging from coursework expectations to what TMU can do to improve the student experience inside and outside the classroom.

“Student feedback is very important at TMU,” says president and vice-chancellor, Mohamed Lachemi. “This survey helps to ensure that the university has an accurate picture of student life and expectations. We use the insights gained from the survey to make important changes to improve services and offer the best possible experience to all of our students.”

Securing a high rate of response is important to ensure that the results are informative and accurate, and so the data can be broken down by faculty and program of study. This detail informs periodic program reviews, allowing the university to maintain the highest academic standards and meet evolving societal demands.

Feedback leads to change

The survey is administered every three years and highlights reports from previous NSSE surveys can be found on the university’s website.

The survey was last conducted in 2023. Results from that survey, for example, indicated that TMU students wanted further improvements to the quality and availability of study spaces outside the classroom. The low-sensory hours introduced to transform student study spaces in an initiative by Student Life and Learning Support in collaboration with Academic Accommodation Support are helping to meet this need.

A chance to win!

Students who complete the survey by the April 10, 2026 deadline will be automatically entered into a prize draw to win a laptop. The winner can choose either a MacBook Pro or a Microsoft Surface.

First- and fourth-year TMU students should check their @torontomu.ca email account for details and their link to the online survey.
