Stepping up for a good cause
TMU community members meet the Blue Jays mascot at the CN Tower Climb Up event on November 16.
On Sunday, November 16th over 20 students, faculty and staff from TMU took on the 1,776-step CN Tower Climb Up challenge to raise funds for the United Way Greater Toronto. By the end of the climb, the TMU team had raised nearly $7,000 to support United Way’s work across the Greater Toronto Area.

The climb, part of TMU’s annual United Way campaign, brought the university community together in support of local social services that serve people facing poverty, homelessness, food insecurity and other critical challenges. According to the United Greater Toronto, 60 per cent of Ontario renters are cutting back on food so they can pay their rent, with more and more people in the GTA being pushed into food insecurity.

This year’s CN Tower stair climb is just one of many initiatives in TMU’s annual United Way campaign, which runs to the end of 2025. TMU encourages faculty and staff to consider supporting the important work of the United Way by donating online or by payroll deduction. Donors can also direct their gifts to specific United Way focus areas, such as mental health or homelessness, by selecting “impact funds” as part of the sign-up process.
