Toronto Metropolitan University has implemented changes to health and safety requirements as of May 1, which come as a response to positive indicators related to COVID-19 in Ontario.

As previously communicated, the university implemented changes to health and safety requirements on May 1. These changes are in response to positive indicators related to COVID-19 in our province and updated guidance from public health and the provincial government. As we continue to work together to limit the spread of COVID-19 on campus, we are sharing some key reminders about how you can contribute to health and safety on campus.

What are the vaccination requirements in order to access campus?

As of May 1, COVID-19 vaccination is no longer required in order to access campus.

While vaccination is not a requirement to access campus, community members are asked to keep their vaccination status in the RyersonSafe app up to date.

Keeping track of the vaccination status of all of our community members will allow the university to shift back to requiring vaccination to attend campus quickly and easily, should it become necessary. Please note that your ability to continue to participate in academics, work and  other activities at the university may be impacted if the requirement for mandatory vaccination against COVID-19 is reintroduced.

Each of us has an important role to play in keeping our campus safe. We encourage all community members to be fully vaccinated, including the booster shot as recommended by public health. For more information, visit the Vaccinations information online

What are the mask requirements while on campus?

The university’s face mask policy will remain in place until further notice, based on guidance from the province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health who has strongly recommended the continued use of masks. The policy requires that a mask or face covering must be worn by every person at all times while indoors in a manner that covers their mouth, nose and chin. Additionally, mask or face covering must be worn while outdoors when they cannot maintain a physical distance of two metres from others. For more information, visit the Masks and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) information online

Do I need to complete health screening before coming to campus daily?

Community members coming to campus are no longer required to complete daily health screening via the RyersonSafe app. However, community members should continue to monitor their health for any COVID-19 symptoms and not come to campus if they are feeling unwell. For more information, visit the Health Screening information online

Will the buildings remain OneCard access only?

Yes, all university buildings will continue to be OneCard access only.

What do I need to do if I’ve been coming to campus and test positive for COVID-19?

If you test positive for COVID-19:

  • Do not attend campus and follow the existing absence processes for students, faculty and staff. This may include coordinating with your course instructors (students) or leaders (staff).
  • Notify those with whom you had had close contact (external link) .

As of May 1, reporting COVID-19 cases to the university’s environmental health and safety team is no longer required in response to changes in public health guidance and requirements. For more information, visit Reporting cases on campus

Thank you for contributing to health and safety on campus

Throughout the pandemic, we have been impressed by our community’s commitment to health and safety protocols that limit the spread of COVID-19 on campus. We are appreciative of your continued contributions and look forward to sharing more information about planning for the fall semester in the coming weeks.
