Celebrate Pride, listen to climate change discussions, attend convocation events – and more

The Canada Excellence Research Chair in Migration and Integration is hosting the premiere of i am … which will include 28 Canadian stories exploring questions about Canadian identity through short films.

With summer around the corner, virtual campus activity may be winding down but there are still a lot of fun things to do. Check out some of the ways you can celebrate completing this school year. For more events, visit the Ryerson Today website

Virtual Pride Kick Off 2021
June 1: Join Positive Space and the Ryerson community on Zoom to kick off Pride 2021 celebrations. Remarks will begin at 12 p.m. For other Pride events, see the Ryerson Today story.

Tickling the Ivories: The Fountain of Youth for Our Brain?
June 2:  Music, like mathematics, is a universal language; it allows us to communicate a variety of emotions and themes that touch the depths of our souls. Although those who begin music training at a young age seem to display the greatest neuroplastic benefits, research shows it is never too late to learn to play an instrument. Discover the advantages of communicating through music and how it helps musicians, both professional and amateur, to maintain and improve their brain health.

Indigenous Student Graduation and Awards Celebration 
June 9: Hosted by Ryerson Aboriginal Student Services, this is an opportunity for Indigenous graduates and award recipients to come together as a community to celebrate their achievements. 

Leading the Charge Conference 
June 9-10: The Centre for Urban Energy is hosting this two-day event to discuss the practical steps we need to take and technological leaps we need to make over the next 10 years for Canada to fulfil its long-term climate commitments while rebuilding after the COVID-19 pandemic. 

i am… Premiere - 28 Canadian stories, exploring 3 questions 
June 10: In 2020, 28 graduate students were selected to explore their places of belonging or not belonging within a Canadian identity. For the premiere, the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Migration and Integration will screen a selection of three-minute films and introduce the i am... web platform that presents all 28 films. 

Free Legal Advice Clinic
June 15: The Ryerson Law Research Centre and Miller Thomson LLP are running a law clinic which provides free legal advice to Ryerson students, Chang School learners and those affiliated with learning zones such as DMZ, on legal issues such as business or work-related issues, consumer contracts, and small claims actions.

2SLGBTQ+ Immigrant Inclusion in the Workplace
June 17: Join Positive Space, and the Immigrant Employee Community Network for a conversation on the intersectionality of 2SLGBTQ+, and immigration. Panellists will discuss how they have overcome systemic barriers, and how their lived-experience has fostered their resilience.

Bring Your Pet to WFH
June 21: The Human Resources department will host a social gathering to celebrate furry companions who have brought us joy while we continue to work from home. Bring your pets, pictures of your animal friend and your favorite stories to this casual show and tell workshop.

Convocation
June 21-24: Convocation is an important milestone in a student’s life. It's a time to recognize successful years of study and dedication, and an opportunity to celebrate this achievement with family and friends. This year, join in on celebrating this milestone through virtual ceremonies.

Meditation and Relaxation with Elder Joanne Dallaire
June 24: Elder Joanne Dallaire will lead  a session of relaxation and meditation, providing images and suggestions that you can incorporate into your daily life to help manage stress. This session is open to all employees and you can join the session through Google Meets.

MOVE Everywhere: Online 
Throughout June: The importance of regular physical activity and a sense of community connection are critical to well-being and academic success. Whether live classes with Ryerson Recreation or pre-recorded content from elsewhere, e-sports or Zoom meetups, it’s important to move. Recreation programming (both virtual and in-person) updates can be found here and may change depending on restrictions.
