Summer kicks off with Pride
The city comes alive during Pride festivities in June.
And just like that, it’s June. Summer has arrived and everyone is ready for plenty of sunshine, outdoor activities and fun with family and friends. Working and studying at Ryerson, we’re in a prime location to enjoy all things Pride during the month of June. While our list is mostly Pride-related events, Toronto has lots to offer during the summer months. Movies in the park, food festivals, art fairs, Caribana – take your pick, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Positive Space has organized a range of exciting events celebrating diversity and inclusion at Ryerson.
Pride Kick-Off
Monday, June 3
All community members are welcome to kick off Pride celebrations at noon on the main level of the Student Learning Centre.
#DisplayYourPride Contest
Monday, June 3 – Thursday, June 13
Got Pride? Show it at the annual #DisplayYourPride challenge, back by popular demand for its seventh year! Showcase your creative flair and fabulous colours by decorating your office space in support of Pride.
Fay and Fluffy’s Storytime: Reading is FUNdamental
Friday, June 7
Fun for the young and the young at heart! Fay and Fluffy's Drag Queen Storytime. Drag performers Fay Slift and Miss Fluffy Soufflé not only make reading fun for kids but also encourage them to see differences as beautiful. Bring your kids to campus for this fabulous event or come on your own and explore some inclusive children's books. (google form) Please register (external link) to join this all-ages event.
Documentary Screening: Track Two
Tuesday, June 11
Learn about the growth of Toronto's gay community, including the infamous "Operation Soap" where Toronto Police raided gay bathhouses, and the subsequent protests. Popcorn provided!
Convocation

Convocation is one of the most important celebrations in a student’s life. It is a time to recognize successful years of study and dedication, and an opportunity to celebrate this achievement with family and friends.
Parodos Festival (external link)

The Annual Parodos Festival, hosted by the School of Performance, showcases a diverse range of dance, theatre and musical performances with a focus on fostering emerging and professional artists, and bringing creative communities together from across the city and abroad. This year’s collaborations include the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts and the University of Southern California.

Pride Crafternoon
Thursday, June 20
Join the Consent Comes First Office and Positive Space for an afternoon of self/community care with DIY crafts including screenprinting.
Leading the Charge Conference
Thursday, June 20
The fourth annual Leading the Charge Conference will take place at Ryerson's new Centre for Urban Innovation. The conference will once again fuse academic and technical expertise with practical industry experience, bringing together high-level talent and decision-makers from across Canada and around the world to explore all aspects of energy storage.
