Film Screening: Heightened Scrutiny

The 2025 documentary film Heightened Scrutiny follows ACLU lawyer Chase Strangio as he prepares to argue before the US Supreme Court in U.S. versus Skrmetti, a case addressing Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care for youth.

The film contextualizes that legal battle within a U.S. media landscape that has built the foundation for recent anti-trans legislation and policies across the U.S. Donna Young, Dean of the Lincoln Alexander School of Law, and Dr. Art Blake, Professor of History, will provide brief introductions framing the significance, for Americans and Canadians, of the issues shown in the film.

Post screening, there will be an insightful discussion about the activist scene then and now with:

Celeste Trianon, transfeminine jurist and activist
Aaden Pearson, trans lawyer working in the area of human rights and constitutional law
Rhodes Thompson-Chase, J.D. candidate at the Lincoln Alexander School of Law
