University statement on vandalism in the DCC

Investigation is currently underway
October 02, 2026

We are very concerned about reports of antisemitic vandalism found in an on-campus student residence.

Antisemitism has no place at TMU. Behaviour that targets or causes harm to members of our community goes against the university’s values. In the face of such events, we reaffirm our commitment to creating a safe, respectful and inclusive campus environment.

The university is actively investigating and has engaged our Human Rights Services and Student Care teams to support impacted students. The matter will be addressed under university policies including Student Code of Non-Academic Conduct and the Discrimination and Harassment Policy.

TMU’s top priority is supporting the safety and well-being of our community. Supports are available to any community member that needs them:

  • TMU Centre for Student Development and Counselling: free counselling services are available for students. Residence students also have access to walk-in counselling support on Wednesdays in Pitman Hall. Please see the attached poster for more information about walk-in counselling.
  • TMU Community Safety & Security: Security is available to respond to issues on campus and can provide SafeWalks to students, staff and faculty anywhere on TMU Campus.  Security also offers safety planning resources to students, staff and faculty.
  • Human Rights Services: Human Rights Services (HRS) works with members of the TMU community to promote learning, working and living environments free of discrimination and harassment. HRS is available to all members of the TMU community including students, faculty and staff and can be reached at humanrights@torontomu.ca or 416-979-5349.
  • Good2Talk (external link) : This free, confidential, mental health support service for Ontario post-secondary students is available 24/7/365. Students can access private support in 100+ languages by calling 1-866-925-5454 or by text “GOOD2TALKON” to 686868.
  • Faculty and staff members affected by these troubling events can connect with the Employee and Family Assistance Program for counselling and other supports.
  • There are also several faculty and staff community networks that employees can access for support.
