TMU Statement on Fatal Shooting at Lambton College
All of us at Toronto Metropolitan University are deeply saddened by the tragic shooting at Lambton College in Sarnia that claimed the life of a student and left two others injured.
This is a devastating and senseless act of violence. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends, those who were injured, and the entire Lambton College community.
Incidents like this are especially distressing because they occur to students at institutions dedicated to learning, connection, and growth. We extend our support to the Lambton College community and all those affected by this tragedy.
Events such as these can leave many feeling unsettled, anxious, or vulnerable. We want to remind you of the wellbeing supports are available should you need them.
- TMU’s Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) is available 24/7 at 1-844-880-9142. Eligible employees can request a counsellor of a preferred gender and/or cultural background. If you are unsure about your eligibility for EFAP, you may also contact Workplace Wellbeing Services confidentially at wws@torontomu.ca.
- The Centre for Student Development and Counselling offers various care, referrals and resources, including individual and group counselling. You can make an appointment by emailing csdc@torontomu.ca or calling 416-979-5195.
- The WalkSafe Program provides a uniformed security member to escort you to various locations on campus, including the subway, bus terminals and nearby parking lots.
