Hughes is a doctoral student in the Communication and Culture program at Toronto Metropolitan University, focusing on the intersections of craft, identity, and culture through the lens of Canadian millinery. Her research investigates the artistic practices, materials, and cultural significance of Canadian hat-making, highlighting the contributions of diverse milliners and exploring how their work reflects broader narratives of heritage, identity, and environmental concerns. Megan has published in Fashion Theory and Fashion Studies and created an undergraduate course in Millinery Design. She actively combines scholarly inquiry with her practice as a milliner, contributing to exhibitions in Canada and internationally.
