Dr. Mahdi Roghanizad is currently seeking new graduate students for the upcoming admission cycle. Thank you for your interest in joining the Computer-Mediated Interpersonal Communication (CMIC) Lab!

 Research Focus: Group Dynamics in CMC

Dr. Roghanizad is expanding the lab’s research on group dynamics within Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC). The lab is particularly interested in investigating how digital environments—such as video conferencing—alter fundamental social processes and collaboration among group members.

Applicants interested in exploring the intersection of social psychology and Computer-Mediated Communication are highly encouraged to reach out.

 Application Process & Interviews

To ensure a strong mutual fit between the student and supervisor, Dr. Roghanizad follows a distinct selection process:

  1. Pre-Application Interview: Unlike many traditional programs, Dr. Roghanizad interviews qualified applicants before inviting them to submit a formal application to the university.
  2. How to Initiate: If you are interested in joining the lab, please send an introductory email to mroghanizad@torontomu.ca. Your email must include:
    • A comprehensive CV
    • Unofficial academic transcripts
    • A brief statement of your research interests and how they align with group dynamics in CMC
  3. Evaluation Criteria: Dr. Roghanizad looks for students who can clearly articulate how their previous research, academic background, or professional experience prepares them for advanced, self-directed study in this field.

 Eligibility Note

Due to current university funding structures for this upcoming cycle, primary supervision is strictly available for students who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents.

If your research interests align with the lab’s expertise, please reach out as early as possible to discuss potential fit.
