Plotting Potential Level-3 Charging Stations for Electric Vehicles in the Greater Toronto Area ©2014

Electric Vehicles (EVs) are the future of sustainable transportation as they do not consume any gasoline nor do they emit greenhouse gases. EV ownership has been increasing rapidly around the world but they are more prevalent in some countries than others. Countries with infrastructure (particularly level-3 charging stations) to support EVs have a higher EV ownership. Ontario but it has the potential to be the largest EV market in Canada but currently does not have the infrastructure in place to support EVs. This study identified the population in the Greater Toronto Area who are likely purchase an EV by examining their demographic characteristics. These demographics of potential owners were gathered from literature exploring demographics of consumers with preferences for EVs. Using these demographics, six clusters were created from a k-means cluster analysis. A location-allocation analysis was completed using Business Analyst to determine where to locate these charging stations to best serve EV owners.
