Amy Peng appointed interim dean, Faculty of Arts

Amy most recently served as the acting dean and inaugural associate dean of innovation in teaching and learning.

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Amy Peng as interim dean, Faculty of Arts. Amy will serve from February 20 to August 15, 2024. During this time, Pam Sugiman will take a six-month administrative leave. I would like to thank Amy for accepting this interim role and for her continued dedication to the Faculty of Arts. 

Amy most recently served as the acting dean and inaugural associate dean of innovation in teaching and learning in the Faculty of Arts. Prior to stepping into this pivotal role, Amy served as interim chair in both the Department of History in 2021 and the Department of Criminology from 2019 to 2020. Additionally, she dedicated her expertise as undergraduate program director for the International Economics and Finance and the Economics and Management Science programs from 2016 to 2019. Amy has been an associate professor in the Department of Economics since 2010.

Throughout her tenure at TMU, Amy has exemplified her unwavering dedication to  undergraduate education. She is a fervent advocate for students, consistently prioritizing currency and inclusivity in her teaching methods and pedagogy. Her outstanding commitment and contributions to education have been duly recognized, earning her esteemed accolades such as the Dean’s Teaching Award in 2016 and the President’s Award for Teaching Excellence in 2020. 

Beyond her roles within academia, Amy’s passion for postsecondary education extends to her scholarly pursuits. Her research in the field of economics of education has resulted in numerous published papers. Furthermore, she actively collaborates with higher-education publishers to  develop online applications aimed at enhancing the learning experience for diverse student  populations.

I would like to thank the Faculty of Arts faculty for their feedback during the consultation process and for sharing their support for Amy’s appointment in this interim role.
