When Savanna Hamilton was offered the role of sideline reporter for the Toronto Raptors, she knew there was only one possible answer.

“I just said, ‘Yes, the answer is, ‘Yes’, said The Creative School alum (’18), grinning from ear to ear. “And they were like, ‘Are you sure? Do you want a minute to think about it?’” and right away I said, “No - the answer is, ‘Yes’.”

The first person she told? Her dad.

“At first I said I didn’t get it,” she said with a laugh.

“And he was like, ‘Oh, it’s okay,’ you know, and was trying to make me feel better. But then I said, ‘No, I was just kidding, I got the job!” she said, beaming.

Having begun in the role in Oct. 2022, Hamilton, who played for TMU’s varsity basketball squad, says it’s a perfect fit.

“I’ve known I wanted to do this since I was 16,” she said.

Helping her reach this pivotal position? The RTA sport media program, which helped give her the fundamentals of the journalism industry - along with her passion, drive, initiative and talent.
