The Lesbian and Gay Liberation in Canada (LGLC) project is building an interactive digital resource for the study of LGBT history in Canada. The project takes Don McLeod’s books, Lesbian and Gay Liberation in Canada: A Selected Annotated Chronology Volumes 1 and 2 and converts them into a database that will allow users to explore the people, places, events, and publications that defined the history of gay liberation in Canada between 1964 and 1981.

Our project not only makes a neglected part of Canadian history available for mainstream scholarly use, it also provides a foundation for modeling identity and representing time in TEI. Our project will enable researchers to plot the events of the Canadian gay liberation movement on maps and timelines; model the shifting identities of the actors within the text; and critically evaluate the relationship between the text and the bibliographic material that underpins it.

LGLC is also a pilot project with the Canadian Writing Research Collaboratory (CWRC) (external link, opens in new window)  at the University of Alberta.
