Local Indigenous Government
This course explores the institutions of band-level or self-governing Indigenous communities. This includes discussions of the unique municipal-provincial powers of Indigenous communities and the influence of major actors at the “local” level, including business, labour, and civil society. The course asks how communities at the local level make decisions and implement them under the Indian Act, self-government and public government frameworks – and how that impacts local communities.
