Art Direction for Film
This studio course addresses the visual world of film by retrofitting locations to evoke fictional space. The art director's role in the production design process is explored. Script adaptation and analysis, character definition, set geography, visual and technical research, swatched palettes, technical drawing and maquettes form the basis of project proposals that may complement production courses or thesis projects. Resource analysis, art department budgeting and time and personnel management are emphasized, as well as key collaborative structures.
