Intersectional Approaches to Advocacy

This course engages theories of race, ability, class, gender, sexuality and nationality to analyze social problems and to develop advocacy strategies that attend to the unique needs of marginalized groups. Students explore the challenges of advocating for different groups based on intersectional factors and the roles of solidarity and ethics in overcoming these challenges. Students also learn to apply intersectionality to communication practices in various settings, including organizational and public contexts, to advocate for justice.
