It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share the news that Erika v C. Bruce has passed away. Erika's warmth, vibrancy and joie de vivre impacted all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She lived a full and accomplished life, always sharing her life stories with eloquence and humour. She was passionate about many things including art, culture, history, languages, reading, theatre and music. She travelled extensively with friends and travel groups, never slowing down and always looking forward to her next adventure. Erika was also passionate about the protection of Canada's waters based on her recognition and foresight that water was critically important for Canada. She established the Geoffrey F. Bruce Fellowships in Canadian Freshwater Policy in 2017 in memory of her husband's distinguished public service career leading many of Canada's national and international diplomacy efforts related to the environment, their shared concerns about the stewardship of Canada's water, and the need to inspire a new generation of young professionals to focus their careers on Canada's precious waters. Through these fellowships she personally touched the lives of many young people, nurtured the development of Canada's water policy community, and instilled the importance of academic research that leads to policy recommendations and action. She joined us regularly at our water policy seminars, always adding insightful comments, questions and encouragement. Her spirit and legacy live on through the transformational impact of her generosity on Canada's next generation of water leaders. She will be dearly missed by all of us in her Bruce Fellowships family.
