Trans Philosophy
This course explores the major issues, concepts, and methods of trans philosophy, a burgeoning subfield that utilizes philosophical tools and traditions to examine trans experience, including the nature of gender and gender identity, and the ethics and politics of gender. The course will provide students with tools to apply trans philosophy to contemporary social and political questions concerning the ethics of identity, political and cultural recognition, and community-building. This course does not presume any prior familiarity with feminist, queer, or trans theory.
