Food Language and Culture

This course explores the connection between gastronomy and language around the world. Topics will include food terminology and historical origins, food metaphors, food as cultural capital, cuisine structures and sound symbolism. Students will analyze how food discourse reflects cultural values through readings, tasting experiments, discussions and a research project. While the course is in English, multilingual examples will be included, and students are welcome to apply their language knowledge to compare food-related terms across cultures.
