Franco-Canadian Culture
This course introduces students to modern and contemporary literature and culture produced in French across Canada (Quebec, Acadia, Ontario and Western Canada). Topics include politics and popular culture, language laws, hockey and its heroes, media, visual arts and music, the role of religious institutions, immigration, feminism and relations with First Nations peoples. Students will gain a critical understanding of how Franco-Canadian authors articulate cultural belonging and shape narratives that define Canada’s bilingual and multicultural landscape.
