Our Tool

We have completed developing the Patient and Public Involvement Questionnaire (PPIQ). The purpose of the tool is to evaluate patient and public engagement in drug funding recommendations. We started the process of creating the tool by conducting a literature search. In order to gain a broad perspective of public and patient engagement we interviewed a wide range of stakeholders (and also explored the issue of transparency (external link) ). We then used this information to develop nine criteria (external link)  against which patient and public involvement could be judged. Based on the interview responses and literature search, we then developed survey questions that addressed each of the nine criteria.

We also conducted  (PDF file) sensibility testing and pilot tested the  (PDF file) PPIQ.  Our intent is that the PPIQ will be used to identify the extent to which committees are meeting the criteria of patient and public involvement and help to evaluate current levels of patient and public involvement as well as indicate areas where such involvement can be strengthened.
