Afag Javadova

Afag Javadova is a PhD candidate in the Immigration, Settlement and Diaspora Policies stream in Policy Studies program. Her interest in immigration policy began in 2013 when she had the opportunity to examine international labour migration in Russia after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Her current research is focused on political incorporation of immigrants and urban citizenship. Her background spans a diverse range of disciplines, including migration, human rights, sociology, and foreign languages. Upon completion of her studies Afag hopes to work in the public sector on immigration policy research and development. Prior to starting her doctorate, Afag served as a Policy Advisor for the U.S. Department of State. More recently, she has worked as a Graduate Teaching and Research Assistant for Ryerson University, and an Integration Program Officer for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
