Whether you’re in between classes, starting or ending a long day on campus, you’re on the lookout for a quick and satisfying meal, check out Ted’s Kitchen Kiosk at TRSM.
Ted’s Kitchen has become a go-to spot for the TMU community, serving healthy and affordable meals right on campus.
Every meal is made by TMU students under the supervision of senior sous chef, Pouravi Mediratta.
Ted Roger’s School’s executive chef, Tommy McHugh has been leading the revamped Ted’s Kitchen for the past four years, bringing in new equipment including Italian panini machines and expanding the menu after listening to what students want.
“I talked to students constantly and asked them what they are looking for,” says McHugh. “That was a big thing, we would listen to the students and make changes.”
For TMU community members with dietary restrictions, the Kitchen Kiosk’s menu includes gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, halal and kosher options.
“We built the entire menu from scratch and designed it to be as convenient as possible for students,” he says. “We have a much larger selection of freshly made sandwiches, wraps, salads and smoothies.”
Ted’s Kitchen also offers seasonal menu changes and daily specials.
Building student confidence
Ted’s Kitchen, an initiative of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, employs students both in the kitchen and at the counter.
It doubles as a learning experience for students to gain lifelong skills in confidence, social interaction and hospitality.
“Confidence is everything, especially in social skills,” says McHugh. “We really encourage our staff to work on guest interaction, greeting guests and being organized. It’s a great thing for a student to learn.”
Thanks to its convenience and fresh food, the kiosk has earned a lot of regular customers.
“We have a lot of students who have said that they love how convenient it is, so students can come out of class, grab some food and sit in the dining hall or outside on the patio,” says McHugh.
Next time you’re in between classes or need a quick bite to eat, stop by Ted’s Kitchen to enjoy their fresh meals. Don’t forget to follow them on Instagram (external link) for daily specials and updates.
