Students, here’s your winter exam guide

Check this list of university supports and resources to help you through this exam season

Numerous in-person and virtual academic and wellness supports are available to students this exam period.

Exam season is upon us. Need help writing and researching that final essay? Feeling a bit lost or need to talk to someone? From study groups to mental health supports, here are a number of services and resources to guide you through these last few weeks of the semester. 

Your one-stop exams guide 

  • Want to know when your exam is? Need accommodation support? Not sure what to do if you suddenly get sick and miss your exam? Find answers to all of your questions about TMU exams on the Exams webpage.

Academic and study support 

  • Academic skills workshops
    Student Life and Learning Support has many workshops to help you set academic goals, find your motivation, and work on your concentration skills. Students can register through the Learning Support Booking Tool.

  • Drop in accommodation support
    Are you looking for learning strategy or assistive technology support? STRIVE provides drop-in learning strategies and assistive technology support for all students registered with Academic Accommodation Support (AAS), in a collaborative group setting.

  • Writing and language support
    Are you working on essays? Book academic writing help during the first week of exams through the Learning Support Booking Tool.

  • Peer academic coaching
    Looking to work on your goal setting, time management and other study skills as exams approach? Book a Peer Academic Coaching session with an upper-year student.

  • Supported learning groups
    If you study better in a group than alone,  (google doc) join a drop-in discussion-based study support group (external link)  guided by an upper-year student facilitator.

  • TMU Libraries
    From research and citation guides to virtual one-on-one research help, newly renovated and accessible study rooms, laptop loans, subject librarians, and 24/7 access to digital resources, the Library opens early, closes late, is open on weekends and has everything you need to help you ace your exams.

  • Test Centre
    Writing an accommodated final test or exam? The Test Centre’s website tells you how to prepare, what to expect and what to bring. 

Math and Computer Science Support

Students can access drop-in online and in-person math and computer science tutoring all throughout the exam period. Schedules and booking information can be found on the Math and Computer Science Support page.

Well-being resources 

  • Thriving in Action Online
    Thriving in Action Online (TiAO) is a comprehensive online library of strategies to thrive in your academic journey. TiAO can help you uncover your strengths, restore motivation and build momentum.
  • Counselling
    The Centre for Student Development and Counselling (CSDC) offers free, confidential counselling services to students. Specific support for Indigenous and Black-identified students is also available. To book an in-person or virtual appointment, visit the CSDC website.
  • Medical Centre
    If you get sick or need medical attention, book an appointment at the Medical Centre. A limited number of same day appointments are available.
  • Academic Consideration Requests (ACR)
    If you miss an exam due to an illness or personal/family emergency, submit a request through the ACR portal and contact your instructor.
  • Movement Breaks
    Don’t have time to hit the gym? Movement Breaks give you the chance to recharge your mind and body during quick moments between study breaks.

Just in case resources 

  • Daily snack breaks
    The Student Life and Campus Engagement team will be hosting daily snack breaks from Monday to Friday during the exam period. The team will have different snacks and beverages available for students to be nourished while working on final assignments and studying for exams. Drop by the 4th floor of the SLC between 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. during the exam period.
  • Stay up to date
    For up to date information on events, tips for exam and test prep, insight into student life and fun playlists, follow TMU Student Life and Learning Support on Instagram (external link) , Twitter (external link)  and TikTok (external link) .
  • Tri-Mentoring
    The Tri-Mentoring Program strives to assist TMU’s culturally diverse student body in their pursuit of personal goals, academic achievements and career success, no matter their level of study. Group mentoring community meetings for equity seeking students on campus, as well as career and peer-to-peer mentoring is available.
