Every year brings with it a myriad of changes, challenges and opportunities - it is easy to understand why the holiday season is often a time of reflection for so many of us. As I look back at this year and all that our community has accomplished it’s clear that this has been a year like no other.

We did what few have done - we took on the very large and very necessary task of renaming our institution. We could not have done this without the support and participation of our community and I want to thank everyone who played a part - big or small - in creating and embracing our new name. It has been remarkable and truly heartening to see such a positive transition to becoming Toronto Metropolitan University.

This year also brought with it a full return to campus. To see our campus alive with the activities of teaching, learning and working has been a truly welcome sight. Navigating the pandemic has been a challenge for us all and our community came together with resilience, collaboration and kindness to persevere through many challenging months.

As always, Toronto Metropolitan University will close for the mid-year break from Monday, December 26, 2022 to Friday, January 6, 2023. I hope that each of you take time this holiday season to slow down, rest and reflect on all of the changes, challenges and opportunities 2022 provided to you. Thank you for being a part of this incredible community and the incredible year we have had.

I wish you and your loved ones all the very best, and I look forward to seeing you in 2023.

Mohamed Lachemi
President and Vice-Chancellor
