Be part of building a caring community through United Way

As a university located in the heart of Toronto, Canada’s largest city, Ryerson has a deep connection with our surrounding communities and neighbourhoods. The COVID-19 pandemic has further magnified the issues affecting the city and has disproportionately affected the most vulnerable community members, particularly those experiencing poverty, mental health issues, food insecurity and unstable housing.
This is why it is more important than ever to support those in need and to help them recover. Since 2015, Ryerson community members have raised more than $1-million for local United Way agencies (external link) through our annual giving efforts. This year, we are partnering with United Way Greater Toronto again to support their 2021 Community Recovery Campaign (external link) .
“Giving is at the heart of Ryerson,” said Ryerson University President and Vice-Chancellor Mohamed Lachemi. “We want to help the people around us to build bright futures and if we each do our part, everyone reaps the benefits of a healthy, resilient and thriving society.”
Donations made to this campaign will impact those who need it most in Peel, Toronto and York Region directly. Through the funds raised, United Way will:
- Ensure people have their basic needs met, like a safe place to call home, food on the table, and a stable, secure job through a region-wide network of 280 agencies.
- Lead with equity by increasing investments to organizations led by, focused on, and serving Black and Indigenous people, and other equity-seeking groups.
- Coordinate a community response by building up local resources, supporting residents and local neighbourhood leaders, and convening government and other stakeholders to ensure that there are no gaps in support.
