Come together with fellow Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) community members to transform our mourning into action for the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women memorial. Together, we will remember and honour the women killed at L’École Polytechnique in Montreal in an act of violence on December 6, 1989, as well as the Ontario femicide victims of 2025, as reported by the Ontario Association of Interval and Transition Houses (OAITH).
What to expect
This event is held as part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, which runs from November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to December 10 (Human Rights Day).
This memorial will feature:
• opening remarks from President Mohamed Lachemi
• a tribute ceremony
• music by the Queer SongBook Orchestra
• time for food and conversation afterward
The 2025 global campaign theme is “UNiTE to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls.” This year’s campaign is also a reminder that digital safety is central to gender equality.
