TMU statement on the passing of honorary board member, Nadir Mohamed

September 19, 2025

The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) community is deeply saddened by the news of the passing of our Honorary Board Member, Nadir Mohamed.

Nadir was one of Canada’s most respected business leaders and philanthropists. As former President and CEO of Rogers Communications, he helped shape the country’s telecommunications landscape, while also championing innovation, entrepreneurship, and community impact.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Nadir was known for his generosity, integrity, and commitment to giving back. Through the Nadir & Shabin Mohamed Foundation, he and his family supported causes in education, healthcare, and community development.

Nadir was also a friend of TMU. He first joined the Board of Governors in 2007 and served through multiple terms until 2016, helping shape the university’s strategy and governance. He was a member of the “Make Your Mark” campaign cabinet, a major fundraising effort that raised over $200 million for TMU. In recognition of his service and impact, upon his retirement from Rogers Communications, the university created a fellowship in his name at The Image Centre. More recently, he was Chair of DMZ Ventures Inc., TMU’s innovation and entrepreneurship arm, contributing his leadership to help grow TMU’s impact in startup incubation and innovation ecosystems.

His belief in the power of education and innovation has made a lasting impact on our university and on the next generation of Canadian leaders.

The university extends its heartfelt condolences to Nadir’s family, friends, and colleagues.
