Ryerson Celebrates Pi Day with 2,000 Slices of Pie
TORONTO, March 13, 2017 --- On Tuesday, March 14, Ryerson’s Faculty of Science will serve up more than 2,000 slices of pie to Ryerson students, potential students and members of the community.
The tasty snack celebrates the love of math on Pi Day, which is celebrated internationally on March 14 (3/14) each year. Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant—the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter—which is approximately 3.14159.
This year’s Pi Day event coincides with Science Agora, a March Break open house where students, faculty and staff host science shows, hands-on activities, and displays to engage and excite hundreds of prospective high school students and their parents. As part of this event, professors will also be on-hand to explain pi, its importance to mathematics and why young people should consider careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). Science Agora takes place from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.; pie will be served beginning at 1:59 p.m.
