Dr. Yukari Seko (she/her) is an associate professor at the School of Professional Communication and an adjunct scientist at Bloorview Research Institute Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital. She is Chair of the Creative School Course-Based Research Ethics Committee (CBREC) and a member of TMU Research Ethics Board. She is also an editor of Canadian Food Studies / La Revue canadienne des études sur l’alimentation, the open-access online journal of the Canadian Association for Food Studies.

Dr. Seko's program of research examines the role of communication in challenging normative values and biases within dominant health paradigms. One of her research focuses is on diasporic foodways among immigrants in Canada, specifically targeting groups with limited food agency such as children and older adults. Her work has explored lunchbox shaming experienced by immigrant children and their families as well as culturally appropriate meal provision for first-generation immigrant seniors. Her research has been expanding to investigate the communication surrounding culturally appropriate food provision at the end of life with an emphasis on the critical moments that accompany this stage of care and decision-making.
