TMU’s Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing (DCSN) and William Osler Health System (Osler) sealed a new academic practice partnership (APP) at a signing ceremony on May 14 at Osler’s Brampton Civic Hospital.

DCSN is one of Canada’s largest nursing schools. The partnership marks the third academic institution to now join Osler’s APP network.

Responsive model to meet evolving health needs

Health needs in the community are continuing to evolve. The new partnership responds by taking an integrated approach to building skilled, resilient and confident nurses, ready to provide high-quality, compassionate and people-centred care.

The APP model will seamlessly bridge two pillars of nurse training: academic learning and clinical experience. Students will have real-world opportunities to apply their knowledge of evidence-based practices on the frontlines under expert guidance.

The new partnership reflects both DCSN and Osler’s commitment to creating rewarding experiences for future nurses — and ultimately better health outcomes for all in the community.

Shared vision for inclusive, innovative health systems

TMU Provost and Vice-President, Academic Roberta Iannacito-Provenzano and DCSN director Maher El-Masri were on hand to formalize the partnership. El-Masri commented:

“The signing of this strategic partnership is the result of our two organizations coming together to bridge the gap between practice and academia — and to provide innovative solutions to nursing educational, practice and research challenges, and to create unique opportunities for collaboration between our teams.”
