TMU Formula Racing Team Unveils TM-25 Ahead of International Competition
This weekend, Toronto Metropolitan University’s Formula Racing (TMFR) team celebrated the unveiling of its latest innovation, the TM-25, at a launch event hosted at Red Bull’s downtown Toronto headquarters. Sleek, re-engineered, and ready for competition, the TM-25 marks a major milestone for TMFR, TMU’s largest and most ambitious student design team.
With over 60 students from FEAS, TRSM, and the Creative School, the team brings together expertise from across the university to design, build, and race a formula-style electric vehicle capable of competing on the world stage.
“This car is the result of thousands of hours of hard work, countless late nights, weekends, and a whole lot of collaboration. Seeing it come together has been incredible.”
Lighter and more powerful than last year’s model, the TM-25 features a fully redesigned aerodynamic package, updated structural components, and a new accumulator configuration. The result is improved power, torque, and weight distribution, crucial gains as the team prepares for the 2025 Formula SAE Electric Series in Michigan this June.
TM-25 builds on TMFR’s shift from combustion to electric power in 2020, and their impressive debut in the electric category at the 2022 Formula SAE competition, where the team placed first in the Business Presentation Event, ranked first in Ontario, and fifth in Canada overall. That experience laid the groundwork for the TM-25 and the confident return to the international arena.
“I’m so glad for all the experiences and friends I’ve made over the years, and I hope I get to keep these relationships for the rest of my life.”
“We’ve learned from past challenges, improved our systems, and are coming into this season stronger and smarter - this will be our fastest car yet!”
With the TM-25 built, tested, and ready, the team now looks ahead to competing against over 120 universities from across the world - driven by innovation, mentorship, and the strength of their community. A heartfelt thank you goes to all the sponsors, faculty, alumni, and supporters who made the TM-25 possible.
