Five people planning using sticky notes for a project

As part of our ongoing efforts to develop TMU’s first-ever five-year Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy and Action Plan (EDI SAP), we invite TMU staff to join a Community Conversation on Belonging.

This interactive session will explore what belonging means to you in your personal, academic and professional life and how we can work together to foster inclusive, supportive and equitable environments for all.

This event is open to TMU staff only. Engagement opportunities for students and faculty will be held in the fall.

What to expect

  • Learn about the progress of TMU’s EDI Strategy and Action Plan
  • Take part in a dynamic exploration of what belonging means at TMU
  • Share your perspectives using tools like Padlet and Mentimeter
  • Participate in ways that work best for you including, verbally, in writing and with visual prompts

This conversation is vitally important at this time and we want to hear from you:

  • What does belonging mean to you, and why is it important?
  • How do you support belonging in your role?
  • What fosters belonging at TMU, and what more can be done to strengthen it?

We encourage you to share specific examples, policies, initiatives, programs and roles that have contributed to your experiences of belonging at TMU.

Your insights will directly inform the EDI Strategy and Action Plan and help us build a framework grounded in the lived experiences and values of our community.

Register to participate

Please RSVP by registering your attendance for this Community Conversation by Wednesday May 29, 2025, at 11:59pm.

About the organizers

This initiative is led by the Office of the Vice-President, Equity and Community Inclusion (OVPECI).

At the request of President Mohamed Lachemi, OVPECI is developing TMU’s first university-wide Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Strategy and Action Plan. The project is being led by Vice-President Dr. Tanya (Toni) De Mello.

An advisory committee with diverse representation from across the university is guiding the process and supporting meaningful community engagement. A dedicated OVPECI project team is leading the coordination, consultations, and analysis to help shape the EDI Strategy and Action Plan.

Accessibility

The university is committed to the accessibility and inclusion of persons with disabilities. This Community Conversation will take place virtually on Zoom and live captioning will be provided.

If you require additional accommodations to support your full participation, please contact the OVPECI team at edistratplan@torontomu.ca.
